TMA04

Part One

6 examples of techniques, concepts or bodies of data for

a) house itself b) furniture/fittings

There are 5 marks each - 3 description + 2 application - I would suggest you do 2 techniques, 2 concepts and 2 bodies of data and make sure you clearly identify you know which is which. You also need to clearly identify which is house and which is furniture.

There are 5 marks for essay quality - you need to think about structure here, beginning, middle and end.

Part Two

One-page project outline

There are 6 marks for a clearly thought out brief. You need to choose from the three prescribed topic areas and then go into a lot more detail about the precise product you wish to design. I suggest you base it on real experience/knowledge and make sure that the information you will need is easily accessible. The biggest problem here is limiting the scale of task - its easy to make it too big.

Don't forget there are 6 marks for information on how project will be investigated/started. You need to refer to explicit techniques already introduced in block materials here - look back over blocks 1-4.

There are 3 marks for clear lay out and crisply written style.

Part Three

Task 1 Enumerating configurations

There are 12 marks for understanding the method/system used and presentation. My advice is to go for configurations and not lots of permutations on the same configuration. Also don't forget 3D and components inside other components.

Task 2 Developing the Options

There are 16 marks for giving some deep consideration to potential ideas generated and for well thought out designs, with some creativity and good range.

Task 3 Selection and Evaluation

There are 22 marks for organisation/execution/evaluation criteria in selecting final design concepts.
